The novel «Holy and Scary aroma», which formed the basis of the game Disco Elysium, is available in Russian!

Hello everyone! Quite recently there was a news that this novel came out in English, which I am incredibly happy, but! Many would still like to read the book in their native language, and using the translator for each page is not very convenient, so I want to present you at once two translations of this novel.

Only for starters we will figure out what is the difference between these publications and with what it is worth starting to start.

So, for starters, what is this “holy and terrible aroma” for yours not enlightened:

Roman Püha Ja õudne Lõ, also known as Sacred and Terrible Air – a book on the basis of which the game Disco Elysium was later created. He was conceived as a prologue to the romance cycle and published long before the release of Disco Elysium, so the world shown in it differs in places from what can be seen in the game.

Now we will deal with the differences between the two editions on the example of the first chapter. We only agree that further in the article I will call the first translation adaptation Hiralni Mehroman, which is currently completed by half and the design for which I did (P1). (if without pathos, I just fitted it under the original scanned book). And a translation of the number two, which did a certain Anon and whose translation is completed completely. (P2)

Let’s start with the name of the chapter

Charlotting (P1) and Charlitage (P2)

The differences begin with the name of the chapter, which, in principle, will display the differences between books.

In the original Sacred and Terrible Air The chapter is called as Charlottesjäl and is translated directly as Charlottehl (P1), but closer to the original, as for me, the second name. Since in Estonian it reads as a cloudless and if you are ready to sacrifice a more pleasant text for the sake of the original book, then the second translation will be for you just.

Take an example:

We will specifically analyze what is the difference between the second and original Estonian text.

I honestly admit that even with an armed gaze it is difficult to notice the difference, but it is still in a small manifestation.

As for me, the translation who made the mechanic’s muds complements the text more and is better read in Russian than the book in the version from Anon*, and therefore it is closer to the structure of Elizium. The book Anon, this is more editing Google Translate (the author himself wrote about this at the beginning of the book)

Attention! This project, from the recognition of a scanned copy of the book to the final starting – the work of one person who does not know a word in Estonian. The translation is made using machine translation programs, online dictionary and search for Google. The translator took up him for great love and tried his best to make him readable, but not particularly sure of the result and from the heart advises to read the official translation when he still comes out. And therefore, it is closer closer to the original, which is not weak in Russian, but not as much as it would be possible.

Again, I must make a reservation that this is just an opinion with which you can not agree with.
